The Department of Education (the Department) is committed to ensuring government schools are cleaned to a high standard, and that cleaning staff wages and employment conditions are fair, equitable and consistent.

This VSBA Q&A portal can help Victorian government school cleaners find information and assistance relating to their work.

Where a Victorian government school cleaner feels there has been a breach of their employment conditions and entitlements, this portal can be used to raise issues directly with the Department.

Employment related issues may include (but are not limited to):
• hourly rate not being in line with the Cleaning Services Award 2020
• penalty rates not being in line with the Cleaning Services Award 2020
• employer not paying the mandated 5% above award rate from 26 December 2024
• having to work unpaid hours
• experiencing unsafe working conditions
• sudden unexpected change in employment, such as a change in hours
• being bullied or harassed
